A little something from our members

Ron

Hi!  My name is Ron and I am a member of Road Riders for Jesus.  I recently asked myself the question, why did I become a RRJ member?  Well, I guess I have always done things a little different than others so if you are really interested in the story, keep reading.

Instead of going to college when I graduated from High School, I joined the Air Force.  While I was stationed in Northern California that I got my first street bike.  Now you have to remember that this was back in the day when Top Gun was the hit movie and all the guys on the base were getting sport bikes, I got a Kawasaki 454 LTD and I enjoyed riding it year round.

I liked it so much that I became the squadrons Motorcycle Safety NCO and I got to do the inspections and checks on all the bikes.  A couple years after getting out of the service, my wife and I left California and moved back to Missouri but the bike stayed out there.  Once back in our home state, I started college and my wife worked.  (did I mention I do this a little different than others)

I didn’t think too much about the bike and a few years later we started a family.  Riding on two wheels was not on my mind then, I was busy teaching my kids to ride a tricycle.  A few more years went by and we started going to Church with some folks who enjoyed riding (if you look around this web site, you will see several of them).  I guess it was seeing their bikes and hearing their stories that gave me the itch again but it was a trip to Promise Keepers in Kansas City that sealed the deal.  Several of us were going to the event and a pretty good sized group of guys were going there on bikes.  The itch got so bad that I ended up borrowing the bike of a friend and I rode down there with them.  Even with all the neck and shoulder pain from riding a sport bike that long, I knew this was something I wanted to do and the search was on for my bike.  It did not take too long to find my Honda ACE and I started riding again.  It’s funny how when your really searching for something, it just shows up.  (and I am not just talking about a bike here folks)

It was about this same time that I learned of RRJ.  What a great fit.  I just got a bike, I was riding with friends who shared similar beliefs and here is RRJ.  It did not take too long until I joined (member 1042) and the rest is history.

Now I just condensed 20 years of my life into a couple paragraphs.  There were lots of other great things that have happened to me and I will save those for another time, but the greatest highlight of my life so far has been my family.  I got married to Angie in 1989 and we celebrated our 20 year anniversary last year.  We have 2 great kids, Ivy who is 12 and Robert who is 10.  It has been a blessing to watch them grow and become their own person.
